I went on a date with someone recently, and the topic of conversation inevitably turned to music.  He mentioned that he is a Nirvana fan. Later in the conversation, I mentioned that I had started playing drums and that Dave Grohl is the main reason I wanted to learn.  ”I don’t know who that is,” he said. … … … Now, I’m cool with people not knowing who Dave Grohl is.  Just because he’s one of my favorite musicians and probably among the very few I’d be willing to camp in the rain to see, it doesn’t mean that I expect people to know who he is.  But how can you be a Nirvana “fan” but not know Dave?! Just doesn’t make sense to me.

Now, I’m cool with people not knowing who Dave Grohl is.  Just because he’s one of my favorite musicians and probably among the very few I’d be willing to camp in the rain to see, it doesn’t mean that I expect people to know who he is.  But how can you be a Nirvana “fan” but not know Dave?! Just doesn’t make sense to me.
